People across parts of Syracuse were left looking out their windows early Friday morning after multiple law enforcement units reportedly moved into the area around Schiller Avenue before sunrise. Residents nearby described a tense scene as heavily equipped officers executed a search warrant at a residence while neighbors watched flashing emergency lights cut through the darkness.
According to New York State Police, the warrant was executed around 5:00 a.m. on May 15, 2026, at 117 Schiller Avenue following what investigators described as a month-long joint investigation involving State Police and the ATF. Authorities say investigators located two loaded semi-automatic handguns, suspected cocaine weighing more than four ounces, methadone, suboxone films and pills, ammunition, narcotics packaging materials, and a digital scale containing suspected cocaine residue.
State Police identified the two men arrested as Robert A. Jackson, 32, and Malcome L. Baker, 31, both of Syracuse. Jackson faces multiple felony charges including Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Baker faces similar felony drug and weapon charges tied to the investigation. Police say both men were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.
Incidents like this continue raising concerns throughout neighborhoods already dealing with crime, narcotics activity, and gun violence fears. Residents across Central New York have repeatedly voiced frustration over drugs and illegal firearms making their way into local communities while families and businesses are left worried about safety near their homes.
Now many in the community are asking bigger questions. How widespread is narcotics trafficking becoming in Syracuse neighborhoods? Are enough resources being put into stopping illegal guns and dangerous drugs before situations escalate further? And what impact are these investigations having on residents trying to feel safe in their own neighborhoods?
