There was understandable concern across parts of Jefferson County after reports circulated that two Carthage High School students had walked away from school grounds Wednesday morning, prompting a public request for assistance from State Police.
According to New York State Police, both juveniles were last seen at approximately 7:30 a.m. on May 27 walking away from Carthage High School toward the village of West Carthage. Police had advised the public that the teens could potentially be in the Carthage or Watertown areas and noted neither was believed to have an active cell phone.
The alert quickly spread across social media as residents shared the information in hopes of helping authorities locate the teens safely.
Thankfully, State Police later issued an update confirming both juveniles had been located and were found in good health.
Incidents like this are a reminder of how quickly communities can come together when a child is reported missing. In moments like these, every share and every set of watchful eyes can matter.
What are your thoughts on how quickly communities rally during situations like this? Does social media play a stronger role than ever in helping locate missing persons?
