People living along Trestle Lake Drive were left stunned Thursday evening as reports of gunfire quickly turned a normally peaceful area into an active law enforcement scene.
Flashing emergency lights filled the neighborhood as New York State Police rushed to the area at approximately 7:38 p.m. on May 28, 2026, after receiving a report of a neighborhood dispute.
According to State Police, dispatchers received additional information from the caller, later identified as Richard Meyers, 65, of Munnsville, who allegedly stated he had fired multiple rounds at a neighboring residence.
Troopers responded to Meyersβ home and attempted contact. Authorities say Meyers later exited the residence and surrendered without incident.
Investigators determined that several rounds struck two unoccupied residences and one unoccupied vehicle on Trestle Lake Drive.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Members of the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit processed the scene while investigators later executed a search warrant at Meyersβ residence.
During that search, authorities reportedly seized:
- Seven long guns
- One pistol
Meyers now faces multiple charges, including:
- Two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree
- Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree
- Two counts of Discharge of a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling
He was processed at State Police Morrisville, arraigned in Madison County CAP Court, and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
For residents in Eaton, incidents like this raise bigger questions.
What caused the dispute to escalate to gunfire?
Could this have ended much worse?

We will continue following this story.
